| I get kind of upset when...
people ask me personal questions, I open up to them, and then they leave me to talk to someone else or they're distracted...
the Dodgers lose in the 9th inning...are we the Giants losing to everyone else now?
people I care about respond to me through someone else
I'm happiest when...
I eat a good burger
I see people's dreams come true after lots of hard work
my small group writes emails concerning their well being

| Living in Los Angeles, I get to listen to a lot of music. Not so much because I choose to at home (unless I'm transcribing - figuring out a song or an idea) but more so because of traffic. You get to know your car and CDs well. Today was one of those rare occasions when I didn't really bring any CDs (I still don't own an Ipod, only because I love collecting cds and am kind of old-school in general), so I checked out my programmed radio stations. The following is a list of local stations and how I felt about them: DISCLAIMER: These views are somewhat harsh judgements based on my limited knowledge of these stations. Most of the time, I'm even open to trashy pop music so this is just my knee-jerk reaction to what I heard today. KROQ (106.7 FM) -- really annoying loud music without the feeling of breaking something (ala Guns N' Roses, Extreme, and other cool rock bands). This may be harsh, but it sounded to me like a bunch of whiney teens all emo'ed out and playing really sloppy music turned up really loud. Some of it is catchy, but it never came close to the feel and depth of the Who's "Baba O' Riley" (very teenage angst-y). Real rock and roll should have depth and meaning. I just felt like a dumb listener. Unfortunately, Nirvana (a band I do appreciate) started all this. As a result, most the 90's and 2000's don't really have an identity in rock music. KJAZZ (88.1 FM) -- this all-jazz station (with the exception of blues Saturdays) is pretty cool. They sometimes play Latin jazz which isn't a favorite of mine, but they do program a lot of traditional, straight-ahead jazz music. My only beef with them is that they don't play much modern jazz (not the smooth stuff) and the older, really seminal recordings (ala Sonny Rollins' "The Bridge" or Coltrane's "Blue Train"). But they do put a strong effort to keep jazz alive, and I do appreciate that. KLOS (95.5) -- This is a great rock station because they play awesome classic rock by awesome bands. But I end up feeling really really old and out of date. Haha. Go Country (105.1) -- Strangely enough, this is my favorite one so far. I'm not into the older ballads, but man the modern stuff has such a RANGE of emotion and musicality. The lyrics are so touching because they're about real life experiences, and almost every guitar player and/or other musician i hear (session players that you don't know the name of) are AMAZING players too. All in all, the songs are good and the playing is good too (ala Brad Paisley) -- pretty rare to have that combination in popular music. Another thing I noticed is that a lot of it is really pop or rock music with just a little twang and they classify it as "country." I have no problem with this because it's such quality music! I used to think the Rascal Flatts were a bunch of boy band country artists but they have great hooks, great songwriting, and very meaningful lyrics. How could you say that these guys were just a bunch of lame pop stars? More on other L.A. stations later... | | |
| Man, sometimes it's crazy how so many people can be so frickin' ignorant. On an elevator, I told Person A that I was into anime, and he kept telling me to be quiet, putting his finger to his lips to signal "shh." I didn't quite know why he was doing that, so I just went on and on about how I loved Neon Genesis Evangelion (a pretty stupid way of being indulgent, but nevertheless...). Then later, I FINALLY discovered that he was thinking about Japanese cartoon porn (known as "Hentai"). I clearly told him that it was different and that I was and am absolutely mortified of cartoon porn. The worst part about this is that Person B said "oh Peter, we really don't care if you like it or not."
Anime is NOT porn!!! Dumbasses...

| I hate when people from out of town say they hate L.A. because of the traffic and the rude people. I hate it because it's true. But I mostly hate it 'cause they're hatin' on MY CITY, DAMNIT!!!
On a lighter Los Angeles note, here's a list of 100 things to do in L.A.(stolen from Eman's facebook):

| Jeez, for some reason, I tend to write more before I take a huge final. What the hell is wrong with me?! I have two big ones today; one in Pro Tools and the other in my advanced guitar masterclass. For that test, I have to know a total of 10 tunes and play them perfectly in tempo, have all my bends in tune, and have my effects set up immaculately or else I lose a letter grade! In fact, I think I bombed my midterm because my cables were not plugged in all the way, and there was no sound for two full bars!!! I better get it together...or else!
On an unrelated note, I really, really miss laughing heartily with my friends. I haven't done that in a while. I wanted it so badly that I started looking up "funny videos" on youtube. They were kind of lame, actually. I know...it's sad and I'm desperate, so the hell what? Haha. But then I thought a little more and put in all my faves: "Chris Rock," "Japanese humor," "Dave Chappelle," "Conan O' Brien," "Triumph" and was very, VERY satisfied! I was in tears for a whole hour (that's right folks, I stopped working on my final in the middle of the night to procrastinate for a FREAKIN' HOUR!!!). But one good thing that came out of it is that I saw some scenes from "Undercover Brother." Dude that movie is hilarious and so wrong at the same time! I think it inspired me to organize a movie night for my small group and whoever else wants to come! Stay tuned for that...
I wonder if Jesus laughed this hard with his disciples. I wonder if his parables and remarks were told as a joke (probably not, and please don't call me a heretic for saying this) because they were often intended to question people's motives somewhat cynically/sarcastically. Maybe? Most likely not, especially for such serious discussion. But I can't help imagining Jesus not only smiling, but busting up with everyone. 'Cause busting up is such a glimpse of heaven.
Good God, it's 5:56 a.m.! Please pray for me and my finals today! I need your help to be serious, God!
